Seventeen Scarf
(As seen in the November issue, page 42)

Materials for scarf:

Worsted weight yarn. (The new "soft" yarns work especially well.)
Seventeen Scarf Project
-- 15 ozs. Red
-- 15 ozs. Fuchsia
-- 2.5 ozs. turquoise
One set of size 15 (10mm) knitting needles
Size J or K (6.00 or 7.00mm) crochet hook for fringe application

Note: Work with two strands of yarn held together throughout.

With red, cast on 34 sts. Knit 4 rows.
Next row (wrong side): Knit 3, purl 28, knit 3.
Next row (right side ): Knit all stitches.
Continue in repeating last 2 rows until piece measures 10".
Join turquoise and work 6 rows in same pattern.
Re-join red and work until piece measures 5'.
Join fuchsia and work in the same way until fuchsia side is the same length as red to turquoise stripe.
Join turquoise and work 6 rows.
Re-join fuchsia and work remaining 10".
Bind off all stitches.
Steam lightly.

Fringe
Note: Add red fringe to pink side and pink fringe to red side. Cut strands of yarn 22" long by wrapping yarn around an 11" book and cutting on one end. Using a size J or K hook apply fringe using 10 strands for each knot.
